A program by Sightsavers (Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind, UK) focused on improving eye health among urban slum dwellers. The program established 6 Vision Centres equipped with trained Optometrists and Ophthalmic Assistants, conducting screenings, refractions, and cataract surgeries. Over 50490 patients were screened, 5169 received spectacles, and 2488 underwent cataract operations. The initiative also aimed to raise awareness about eye care and ensure affordable, quality services to prevent blindness from conditions like Refractive Errors, Cataracts, and Diabetic Retinopathy in urban slums.
